KARACHI:

A fire that broke out in the Creek Area near Korangi Crossing around 12am on Friday remained uncontrollable until late on Saturday. Fire brigade officials and Rescue 1122 teams were stationed at the site as standby, but firefighting efforts were paused.

According to Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan, teams are waiting for the fire to extinguish itself naturally. If the situation does not improve, a team from the Ministry of Petroleum will be called to assess the situation and provide expert advice on how to approach the fire. Authorities fear that using sand to smother the fire without proper guidance could lead to further complications.

Rescue officials reported no injuries, but a truck and heavy machinery at a boring site were completely destroyed in the blaze. The mysterious fire has sparked panic in the area. Allegedly triggered by a gas line leak, the cause of the fire remains unclear, leaving authorities scrambling for answers.

The fire erupted suddenly during boring operations on an empty plot of land and quickly escalated. Flames surged from the ground, reaching high into the sky. When the fire was first reported, a single fire tender was dispatched, but given the fire's intensity, additional tenders were called in from across the city, and the fire was soon declared a third-degree emergency.

Meanwhile, the Sui Southern Gas Company, clarifying a news about a fire broke out near a school in North Karachi due to a gas leak, has said that the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board staff, while working on their own pipeline, damaged SSGC's gas pipeline.
