A car accident in Malakand has resulted in the deaths of five family members after their vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a canal.

The incident occurred in the Duragai tehsil, near the Khatkoshah Afghan refugee camp, amidst heavy rainfall.

Emergency responders, including Malakand Levies and local rescue teams, arrived promptly at the scene to recover the victims from the water.

The deceased include two women, two young girls, and their driver. Their bodies have since been transported to a local hospital for identification and necessary procedures.

Muhammad Asim Khan, a spokesperson for Rescue 1122, stated that the accident occurred because the vehicle lost control due to slippery road conditions created by the heavy rain.

Local police confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the accident, which has shocked the community.

Eyewitnesses reported that the heavy rainfall contributed to the vehicle losing control before it fell into the canal.

Earlier, heavy rain and thunderstorms swept through Peshawar and surrounding areas early Wednesday, flooding streets and disrupting daily life.

The downpour, which began around 6:30 AM, lasted for an hour, leaving roads submerged in water.

Dark clouds continue to dominate the city’s skyline, with light drizzle and strong winds reported on Tuesday as well. The wet conditions extend beyond Peshawar, with Dir and Chitral experiencing rain for the past two days.

In Chitral, snowfall resumed overnight, adding a fresh white layer to the mountainous landscape.
