Stars vs Oilers 4-3: Jason Robertson hattrick propels Dallas to win
Jason Robertson’s second-period hat trick powered the Dallas Stars to a 4-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday, despite a spirited late push from the hosts at Rogers Place.
The Stars took control early, with Wyatt Johnston opening the scoring on a breakaway late in the first period.
Robertson then took over in the second, capitalising on an Oilers turnover for his first goal before striking twice more—once on a breakaway out of the penalty box and again on a power-play deflection—giving Dallas a commanding 4-0 lead heading into the final frame.
Edmonton, however, refused to go down quietly. With 11 minutes remaining, goaltender Stuart Skinner was forced to leave after an apparent injury following contact from Mikko Rantanen’s knee.
Calvin Pickard stepped in, and the Oilers found new life. Corey Perry got them on the board with a power-play goal, followed by Adam Henrique’s top-shelf finish on another man advantage to cut the deficit to two.
Zach Hyman brought Edmonton within one with 1:25 left, tucking home a rebound off Evan Bouchard’s point shot. With Pickard pulled for an extra attacker, the Oilers pressed hard in the final minute but were denied by Dallas netminder Jake Oettinger, who finished with 41 saves to secure the victory.
Despite outshooting the Stars 44-24, Edmonton fell short and suffered their second straight defeat.
The Oilers now head to Seattle for a back-to-back against the Kraken, with Pickard expected to start as the team awaits further updates on Skinner’s condition.
