
The transport department, on the directives of Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, has launched a crackdown on transporters, charging extra fare from passengers travelling to their native towns on the occasion of Eidul Fitr.
During the ongoing campaign, 710 vehicles were inspected across the province, 427 vehicles were slapped with a total of Rs384,200 fines for fare violations. The transport department teams refunded Rs1,015,300 to the passengers who were forced to pay extra fare.
The campaign will continue even after Eidul Fitr to ensure passengers are fully protected from illegal practice of transporters, charging extra fares. The minister said strict action is being taken against those charging excessive fares.
