Several houses and hotels have been damaged due to the collapse of a glacier on Lake Saiful Mlook Road in Naran, a popular tourist destination in the Kaghan Valley. Currently, the region is buried under three to four feet of snow, making access nearly impossible.
Due to glaciers blocking the Kaghan Highway, vehicle access to Naran has become impossible. Moreover, with overcast weather and snowfall predictions, even reaching Naran on foot is challenging, making it difficult to assess the full extent of the damage.
According to the Kaghan Development Authority (KDA), initial reports indicate that six houses, three hotels, and two turbines have been affected by the glacier collapse. However, the exact extent of the damage can only be determined once access to Naran is restored. Earlier this year, concerns were raised about climate change in the Kaghan Valley due to prolonged dry weather.
However, the recent snowfall in March has alleviated these concerns.
Following multiple glacier collapses in Naran and its surrounding valleys, previously dried-up springs have started flowing again.
