The Commissioner Karachi has imposed Section 144 across the city, banning public gatherings of more than five people with immediate effect due to concerns over the law and order situation.
According to a notification issued on Monday, the ban was enforced on the recommendation of the Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Police, Karachi, who cited threats to public safety and security.

“In exercise of powers under Section 144 (6) Cr. P.C, delegated by the Home Department, Government of Sindh… I, Syed Hassan Naqvi, Commissioner Karachi Division, hereby impose a complete ban on any type of protests, demonstrations, sit-ins, rallies and assembly of more than five (05) persons within the Karachi Division, with immediate effect, for 24.3.2025,” the official notification stated.
The move follows a similar restriction recently imposed in Balochistan and aims to prevent unrest amid growing political and social tensions.
In response, roads surrounding the Karachi Press Club were sealed off using parked vehicles, resulting in severe traffic congestion in the area.
Authorities have not specified the duration of the enforcement but stated that the measure is temporary and will be reviewed based on developments in the city’s security situation.
The ban is intended to maintain public order and ensure the safety of citizens amid fears of planned demonstrations and unrest.
