Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold is reportedly determined to join Real Madrid this summer, with his contract at Anfield set to expire. The reigning Champions League holders remain confident of securing the England international on a free transfer.

According to Marca, Alexander-Arnold has rejected Liverpool’s latest contract offer, reinforcing his commitment to Madrid. The La Liga giants had initially attempted to sign him in January following Dani Carvajal’s injury, but Liverpool opted to retain him for their Premier League title push.

With the domestic season concluding in just over two months, Alexander-Arnold’s departure appears imminent. He is one of three senior Liverpool players out of contract this summer, alongside Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

However, the need for a replacement at right-back has become a pressing concern for the club.

Liverpool’s Right-Back Dilemma

Conor Bradley has stepped in during Alexander-Arnold’s absence, but concerns over his injury record persist.

Liverpool are reportedly considering Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong as a potential successor. The Dutch international, who previously trained with Manchester City’s academy, has a release clause of approximately £34 million.

Frimpong previously revealed that he was close to joining Liverpool in his youth but ultimately chose City due to logistical reasons. "I was going to sign for them, but travelling was difficult for my family, and Man City was local," he told Rising Ballers in January.

Injury Concerns and Final Matches

Alexander-Arnold’s immediate focus remains on recovering from an injury sustained during Liverpool’s Champions League exit against Paris Saint-Germain. He was ruled out of the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle, with manager Arne Slot confirming that the defender is expected to return before the season ends.

Liverpool’s final fixture of the campaign is against Crystal Palace on 25 May, which could mark Alexander-Arnold’s last appearance for the club. While some supporters hope he stays, others understand his desire for a new challenge.

Madrid’s Confidence in the Deal

Real Madrid reportedly view Alexander-Arnold as an ideal long-term replacement at right-back. He would link up with England teammate Jude Bellingham, who has flourished since moving to Spain.

Former Liverpool midfielder Steve McManaman, who made the same move in 1999, previously suggested Alexander-Arnold could be tempted by a fresh start. "He’s been at Liverpool for 20 years. He might want to try something new," McManaman told TNT Sports.

Unless Liverpool can change his mind, Alexander-Arnold has fewer than ten matches left in a Reds shirt. His focus now will be on finishing his time at Anfield as a Premier League winner.
