
A wanted Afghan national, involved in multiple serious crimes, including the murder of former Union Council Chairman Asif Nawaz Khan, was killed in a police encounter in the Basal area.
According to police reports, the suspect, identified as Muhammad Akbar, son of Khalid and a resident of Afghanistan, was in police custody on physical remand. While being transported back to the police station after the recovery of the murder weapon, two unidentified armed accomplices of the suspect ambushed the police and opened fire. The police narrowly escaped and managed to take cover. The attackers freed Muhammad Akbar and fled toward the jungle near Jabi Dam.
Additional police reinforcements were called in, and a chase ensued. Shortly afterward, the suspect was found critically injured. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his wounds on the way. A spokesperson for Attock Police stated that a search operation has been launched to apprehend the unidentified attackers. The police vowed to bring the culprits to justice.
