ISLAMABAD:

Imran Khan's PTI has vehemently denounced "the excessive and brutal use of force" against the "peaceful protesters of Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) in Quetta".

It has stated that the PPP led coalition government in Balochistan and the party chairman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, should be held accountable for the tragic loss of lives that took place as a result of the crackdown.

"The oppressive regime has once again crossed all boundaries of brutality in its desperate attempt to cling to power, even at the cost of national unity and integrity," said PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram in a strongly-worded statement issued on Saturday.

Akram stated that the "fake" chief minister, who once claimed that all was well in Balochistan, now faces a shutdown of the provincial capital.

"The PTI expresses its full solidarity with the people of Balochistan and the families of missing persons during this difficult time.

"We demand immediate accountability for those responsible for the killing and injuring of peaceful demonstrators and instant release of all detainees including Dr Mahrang Baloch," he added.

The PTI official said "the power usurpers" cannot evade public accountability and the voices of the people cannot be silenced.

"Those responsible for these grave injustices will soon face the consequences of their actions," he said.

According to Akram, the incumbent government continues to unleash a reign of terror across the country to suppress dissenting voices.

"However, such coercive and oppressive measures will not serve the interests of those unlawfully clinging to power; instead, they will only exacerbate the already volatile situation," he added.

He urged the "illegitimate government" to heed the legitimate demands of the BYC protesters and take immediate steps to address their genuine grievances.

"We demand that all missing persons be presented before a court of law. If any individual is found guilty, they should be dealt with in accordance with legal procedures.

"Enforced disappearances are inhumane, unlawful, and a blatant violation of human rights and this abhorrent practice must be brought to an immediate end."

He said the PTI stands firmly with the people of Balochistan in their quest for justice. He urged the government to uphold human rights, ensure transparency, and respect the rule of law.

Waqas said the state had not learned from past mistakes, as the use of brutal force against its own citizens had always backfired and proven counterproductive.
