The sports community is mourning the loss of legendary boxer George Foreman, who passed away on March 21, 2025, at the age of 76.
Foreman's family shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram, stating, “Our hearts are broken. With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr. who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025 surrounded by loved ones.
A devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose.”
Upon hearing of Foreman's passing, tributes poured in from all corners of the sports world. Fellow boxing champion Mike Tyson expressed his condolences on X, writing, “Condolences to George Foreman’s family. His contribution to boxing and beyond will never be forgotten.”

Mauricio Sulaiman, President of the World Boxing Council, also shared his tribute, saying, “Receiving sad news is a moment that sticks to your memory for life. The great George Foreman has passed away. Legendary boxing champion, life-changing preacher, Husband, father, grand and great grandfather and the best friend you could have. His memory is now eternal, may Big George rest in peace.” Sulaiman further shared a personal photo of himself presenting Foreman with the prestigious WBC green belt, a moment he described as “an honor.”
Beyond the boxing community, sports figures from other realms also paid their respects. NBA Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen tweeted, “Rest in peace, George Foreman. Your legacy lives on, champ.”
Charles Barkley, speaking on CBS Sports during a March Madness broadcast, shared an emotional tribute to the boxing icon. "I got to know Mr. Foreman a little bit seeing him at all of the boxing matches," Barkley said, fighting back tears. "I always picked his brain about trying to be an entrepreneur when your career is over. This hurts, man, I ain’t gonna lie. Between him, Junior Bridgeman, Oliver Miller, and now Mr. Foreman, it’s been a rough week."
