Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco have officially released their first collaborative album, I Said I Love You First, a 14-track project that debuted Thursday night. The album launch also included the release of a music video for the piano-driven track, “Younger and Hotter Than Me.”
The video opens with a melancholic Gomez lying on a couch in a house covered in white sheets, only to reveal that the home is actually a set on a soundstage. She grabs a bag of toiletries and heads into a shared bathroom, where she encounters a young girl in a princess costume. As Gomez sings lyrics filled with regret and reflection, Blanco briefly appears—sharing a quiet lunch with her before walking away, leaving her alone once again.
In addition to the music video, the couple opened up about their creative journey in a 33-minute Spotify feature. According to Gomez, the songwriting process was organic and unstructured. “Our conversation was never led going, ‘What are we going to write in the album?’” she shared.
Blanco added that much of the material was inspired by spontaneous comments Gomez made during their time together. “Sometimes, you’d be saying something really important, and I would always open my phone and be like, ‘That’s such a good line for a song,’” he said.
The album features collaborations with Finneas, Charli XCX, and Gracie Abrams. It also includes the previously released track “I Can’t Get Enough” featuring J Balvin and Tainy, originally launched in 2019.
Blanco emphasized how the project became deeply personal for both artists. “More than anything, this was something we got to do together for us,” he told Spotify. “The best part was making something I love with the person I love.”
