Five dead, 16 injured in bus-van collision

Factory bus driver booked for negligence as victims rushed to hospitals across Chiniot, Faisalabad

CHINIOT:

A collision between a factory bus and a passenger wagon near Lalian Toll Plaza resulted in five deaths and injuries to 16 other people.

The Chiniot district administration registered a case against the bus driver under various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code, including negligence and recklessness.

According to officials, the garments and hosiery factory bus was returning to Lalian after dropping off workers when it overtook another vehicle near the toll plaza and collided with the oncoming van.

Rescue 1122 personnel arrived shifted the injured and the bodies to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Lalian, where an emergency was declared due to the large number of casualties.

Four people with minor injuries were discharged from the hospital after initial medical treatment, while eight critically injured victims were shifted to the Chiniot DHQ Hospital. Of them, four were later referred to Allied Hospital in Faisalabad.

Initial reports identified the deceased as Gul Jan, Taza Gul, Shaukat Ali, Majeed and Khalid Parvez. The injured included Sohail Akhtar, Ishrat Bibi, Faisal, Ghulam Mustafa, Abdul Haseeb, Abdul Rehman, Faisal Abbas, Tania, Amir, Hussain Ali, Begum Jan, Arshad and Sajida.
