Eddie Jordan, the former Formula 1 team owner and renowned TV pundit, has passed away at the age of 76 following a battle with aggressive bladder and prostate cancer.

The Irishman, who founded the Jordan Grand Prix team and later became a popular figure in F1 broadcasting, revealed in December that he had been diagnosed with cancer in the spring of 2024. He described the past year as filled with “very dark days” as the illness spread to his spine and pelvis.

A statement from his family confirmed his passing: "It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Eddie Jordan OBE, the ex-Formula 1 team owner, TV pundit, and entrepreneur. He passed away peacefully with family by his side in Cape Town in the early hours of 20 March 2025."

Jordan made a lasting impact on Formula 1, having founded his own team in 1991. He famously gave seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher his debut before the German driver moved to Benetton. His team’s best season came in 1999 when Heinz-Harald Frentzen finished third in the drivers’ championship.

In recent months, Jordan had been receiving chemotherapy while spending time in Cape Town. Speaking last month about his involvement in rescuing the London Irish rugby club from administration, he became emotional when discussing his treatment. "Sorry guys, just a small thing, thank you,” he said on talkSPORT. "I've just come out of getting chemotherapy and I'm not 100 per cent together here, guys."

Jordan’s impact on motorsport and broadcasting was immense, and his legacy as both a team owner and outspoken pundit will be remembered by fans and colleagues worldwide.
