Hong Kong’s PCCW Media has partnered with independent film and television studio SK Global Entertainment (Crazy Rich Asians) to produce the six-part drama series The Season.
Set in Hong Kong, the story follows a group of friends who come together for a summer of excitement as the boating season begins. However, their seemingly carefree adventures soon unravel into a web of deception and power struggles. With a mix of intrigue and drama, the series aims to captivate global audiences. The project was officially unveiled at Hong Kong FilMart.
“We believe The Season is a story that will connect with audiences everywhere through the characters’ personal journeys, relationships, and conflicts,” said Janice Lee, managing director of PCCW Media Group and CEO of Viu, the company’s multi-territory streaming platform.
The ensemble cast features Jessie Mei Li (Shadow and Bone), three-time Golden Horse winner Karena Lam, and Justin Chien (The Brothers Sun), alongside Yvonne Chapman (Avatar: The Last Airbender), Celina Jade (Wolf Warrior 2), and Toby Stephens (Percy Jackson and the Olympians). Rising star Kōki, who won the Rising Star of Asia Award 2025 at the Asian Film Awards, also joins the cast, along with Lee Jae-yoon (Physical 100 S2), Anson Lo, Marf Yau, Lyman Heung, Thor Lok, and Mishy Lee.
The series is helmed by showrunner Yalun Tu (NCIS: Hawaii, Wu Assassins), with Chilean director Marialy Rivas (The Jetty) serving as lead director and executive producer. Agatha Lo will executive produce for PCCW Media, while Chloe Dan, Matt Aragachi, and Dylan Tarason will lead production for SK Global.
Set against the vibrant backdrop of Hong Kong, the series showcases the city’s unique culture, international energy, and iconic visuals. The Season will be distributed on Viu across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and South Africa, with additional international distribution details to be announced.
PCCW Media operates streaming services across 16 markets in Asia, the Middle East, and South Africa while also providing free television and live entertainment in Hong Kong. SK Global, headquartered in Los Angeles, has produced and financed over 100 films, including Crazy Rich Asians, Anyone But You, and Delhi Crime. Their collaboration ensures that The Season will reach a broad global audience through Viu’s extensive network and SK Global’s established presence in international markets.
