PM discusses investment opportunities with Afiniti CEO

Shehbaz Sharif says he is overseeing programmes to equip Pakistan’s youth with IT, AI, and advanced tech skills.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasised the potential of Pakistan's IT workforce during a meeting on Monday with a four-member delegation led by Jerome Kapelus, CEO of the US-based multinational IT company, Afiniti.

The meeting, held at the PM’s Office, focused on Pakistan's growing IT sector and the government’s efforts to support it, a statement issued by the PM's Office read.

The PM highlighted that Pakistan’s IT professionals had the capability to compete globally and that the government was providing essential facilities to help IT companies achieve their export target of $25 billion.

He welcomed Afiniti’s interest in further investment in the country’s IT sector and suggested that Afiniti Pakistan establish a world-class call center to serve both national and international clients.

The PM also shared that he was personally overseeing programmes aimed at equipping the country’s youth with skills in IT, AI, and other advanced technologies. Minister of State for IT, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, and senior officials from relevant institutions attended the meeting.

Kapelus praised the expertise of Pakistani IT professionals, noting their commitment to the sector’s development. He remarked that Pakistan’s IT sector was highly conducive to investment and business.

He also revealed that over 1,000 skilled Pakistani professionals were currently working at Afiniti Pakistan, underscoring the country’s potential to drive growth in the global IT landscape.
