At least five people were killed and three others injured when a passenger coaster skidded off an icy road and plunged into a deep ravine in Azad Kashmir’s Haveli district, officials said on Sunday.

The vehicle was travelling from Kahuta to Rawalpindi when it lost control near Mahmood Gali due to slippery road conditions caused by snow and fog. According to police, the coaster slid for several metres before tumbling hundreds of feet down the steep gorge.

Locals and rescue teams rushed to the scene, retrieving bodies and assisting the injured, who were taken to a nearby army hospital and a medical centre for treatment.

A video of the incident has surfaced online, showing the vehicle skidding on the snow-covered road before losing control.

Earlier, two students lost their lives, and 11 others were injured when a school van plunged into a ravine in Abbottabad’s Tarnawai area on Saturday.

The accident occurred within the jurisdiction of Mangal police station. According to rescue officials, the difficult terrain hindered emergency response efforts.
