The United States Embassy in Islamabad has strongly condemned the terrorist attack on the Jaffar Express train in Balochistan, expressing sympathy and condolences for the victims of the “horrific act.”
The attack, carried out by gunmen on Tuesday afternoon, occurred in a remote mountainous area of Balochistan province and was immediately claimed by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA).
The assailants forced the train to halt and took hundreds of passengers hostage. Security sources report that at least 30 terrorists were killed, and 190 passengers were rescued as security operations against the attackers continued for a second day on Wednesday.
“We strongly condemn the attack on the Jaffar Express train, and the hostage-taking of passengers in Kacchi, Balochistan, claimed by the Baloch Liberation Army, a US-Specially Designated Global Terrorist group,” the US Embassy said in a statement posted on X.
“We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the victims, their families, and all those affected by this horrific act. The Pakistani people deserve to live free from violence and fear. The United States will remain a steadfast partner of Pakistan in its efforts to ensure the safety and security of all its citizens. We stand in solidarity with Pakistan during this difficult time,” it added.
In a separate statement, China also condemned the terrorist attack. Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning expressed Beijing’s firm opposition to terrorism in all its forms, reaffirming China’s support for Pakistan in combating terrorism and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
“We strongly condemn this terrorist attack. China firmly opposes terrorism in any form. We will continue to firmly support Pakistan in combating terrorism, maintaining solidarity and social stability, and protecting the safety of the people,” Mao Ning said during a regular press conference on Wednesday.
