A case has been registered against Balochistan National Party (BNP) leaders and workers at the New Sariab Police Station for blocking the Quetta-Sibi National Highway.
The First Information Report (FIR) was lodged by the Station House Officer (SHO) of New Sariab, naming key BNP figures, including Sajid Tareen Advocate, Agha Hassan Baloch, Ahmed Nawaz Baloch, Musa Baloch, Ghulam Nabi Marri and Ghulam Rasool Mengal, along with 45 to 50 workers.
BNP had earlier announced protest sit-ins on Balochistan's highways. Reacting to the FIR, BNP Senior Vice President Sajid Tareen Advocate called it political victimization and accused the establishment and the Sarfraz Bugti-led government of filing false cases against party leaders.
He said the BNP had faced similar cases during martial law but its leadership and workers had never backed down.
The party has strongly condemned the registration of cases against its chief, Sardar Akhtar Mengal, and other key leaders, calling it an attempt to silence political opposition.
Sardar Akhtar Mengal and other key leaders of the party also visited Wash police station and asked the police if they could surrender before the police after the case. However, police refused to arrest the BNP chief, Gorgain Mengal and other leaders.
