US President Trump and Pope Francis possibly nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

Over 300 individuals and organisations have been nominated for the prestigious 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, with notable figures such as US President Donald Trump and Pope Francis possibly included in the list.

The Norwegian Nobel Institute revealed that this year's nominations total 338, comprising 244 individuals and 94 organisations.

While the identity of the nominees remains confidential for 50 years, the two names prominently mentioned are Trump and Pope Francis, along with former NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg.

US Congressman Darrell Issa announced on social media that he had nominated Trump for the award, citing his contributions to peace efforts in the Middle East. Although Issa's nomination was submitted after the official deadline, Ukrainian parliamentarian Oleksandr Merezhko had nominated Trump earlier in November.

Trump’s previous nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize have attracted attention, but his candidacy this year is particularly notable given his controversial actions during his presidency, including engaging in talks with Moscow regarding the war in Ukraine and his strained relationships with European allies.

Meanwhile, in the UK, a petition with thousands of signatures called for Frenchwoman Gisèle Pelicot to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Pelicot earned recognition for her public fight during her ex-husband’s trial, who was convicted of serious crimes, including allowing strangers to rape her while she was drugged.

The Nobel Peace Prize nominations will remain under review, with the final winner yet to be determined.
