Rohit Sharma breaks Chris Gayle's record during CT semi-final

Sharma's six off Ellis gave him 65 sixes, breaking Chris Gayle's record for most sixes in ICC ODI tournaments.

Indian Captain Rohit Sharma etched his name in history during India's match against Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, surpassing Chris Gayle's record for the most sixes in ICC ODI tournaments.

His remarkable mid-wicket six off Nathan Ellis propelled him to 65 sixes, breaking Gayle's previous record of 64. Sharma, already among the elite in the world of cricket, has now hit 338 sixes in ODIs, surpassing Gayle’s 331. He now trails only Shahid Afridi, who leads with 351 sixes in the format.

In addition to his six-hitting feats, Sharma continues to set records across formats. He became the Indian player with the most international centuries (36) after turning 30, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's previous record of 35. He also holds the record for the most fifty-plus scores in international cricket, with 121.

The Indian captain further solidified his legacy by becoming the first to hit 250 international sixes, a testament to his aggressive style of batting. In the ODI landscape, he also passed Rahul Dravid's tally of 10,889 runs, cementing his place among the top 10 run-scorers in ODI history.

Sharma also holds the record for the most sixes in T20 Internationals, with 205 sixes, making him the only player to surpass 200 sixes in T20I cricket.
