Wilson fought Brady Tkachuk late in the first period, scored on the power play in the second, and assisted on Martin Fehervary’s third-period goal, completing a Gordie Howe Hat Trick. Fehervary’s goal gave Washington a late lead, but Tkachuk equalized with a 6-on-4 goal with just over a minute left in regulation.

The Capitals survived a late scare after killing their seventh minor penalty in overtime following a too-many-men call. Dylan Strome netted the only goal of the shootout, securing two crucial points for the Eastern Conference leaders, who had earlier let a 3-0 lead slip away.

Pierre-Luc Dubois tallied a goal and two assists for Washington, while Connor McMichael also found the net. Logan Thompson made 33 saves and was flawless in the shootout, earning his 26th win of the season. Alex Ovechkin remains 10 goals shy of tying the NHL’s career scoring record.

Shane Pinto led Ottawa with two goals, while Claude Giroux also scored. Linus Ullmark stopped 37 shots in a losing effort. Tim Stützle extended his career-best point streak to 12 games with two assists.

The Senators visit the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday, while the Capitals face the New York Rangers the same night.
