Adrien Brody made Academy Awards history on Sunday night by delivering the longest Oscars acceptance speech ever recorded.

Winning Best Actor for The Brutalist, Brody spoke for an unprecedented five minutes and 40 seconds, surpassing the previous record of five minutes and 30 seconds set by Greer Garson in 1943.

However, while Brody commanded the stage, social media was fixated on Cillian Murphy, whose facial expressions throughout the speech became the night’s most viral moment.

Murphy, who won the Best Actor Oscar in 2024 for Oppenheimer, presented Brody with the award and stood behind him to the side as the speech unfolded. As Brody passionately reflected on his career, activism, and the unpredictability of Hollywood, Murphy’s expression shifted from polite attentiveness to what many described as a thousand-yard stare.

Memes flooded social media, with users joking that Murphy was on 'power-saving mode' during the long speech. One viral tweet read, "You can see the exact moment he mentally clocked out" . Another added, "Cillian Murphy with the patience of a saint".

Murphy’s reputation for avoiding the spotlight only added fuel to the online amusement. Fans pointed to past interviews where he admitted to skipping cast dinners and dodging unnecessary conversations.
