John Cena shocked the WWE Universe on Saturday at Elimination Chamber when he turned heel for the first time in over 20 years, aligning with The Rock and attacking Cody Rhodes.
According to a report from Fightful Select, Cena’s turn was closely guarded, with only a select few within WWE aware of the plans.
The segment, initially scheduled as the third on the card, was moved to follow the men's Elimination Chamber match to maintain secrecy. WWE Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque later confirmed in the post-show press conference that he personally oversaw the segment.
Triple H's involvement with the angle, rather than the production team, underscores the level of secrecy surrounding the moment. The heel turn reportedly surprised many within WWE, in addition to the fans.
While there is no official confirmation on whether The Rock will compete at WrestleMania, Fightful notes that his creative plans remain highly confidential. Cena is not advertised for the next two episodes of WWE Raw, and The Rock stated he would be travelling to Africa after the event.
Cody Rhodes, meanwhile, is scheduled to appear on WWE SmackDown at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, though the card remains subject to change.
Travis Scott’s WWE involvement continues
Grammy-nominated rapper Travis Scott was also present during the closing segment, attacking Rhodes after appearing at ringside. While his involvement may have seemed unexpected, Fightful reports that Scott’s role in WWE had been in discussion since mid-January, with further plans potentially in place.
Scott has had prior interactions with WWE, having accompanied Jey Uso to the ring on WWE Raw in January and receiving a WWE Hardcore Championship belt from Triple H during a concert. His track 4x4 is now the official theme for Raw.
Though speculation exists about Scott possibly competing in a WWE match, sources have not confirmed a timeline or the wrestling school where he reportedly trained.
With Cena’s shocking turn, The Rock’s looming presence, and Scott’s deepening involvement, the road to WrestleMania promises to be one of the most unpredictable in recent memory.
