Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has hinted at a potential return for Ballon d'Or winner Rodri before the end of the season.
Rodri's potential comeback offers a glimmer of hope to the Premier League champions as they continue to struggle without their influential midfielder.
Rodri, who has been sidelined since September with a serious knee injury sustained against Arsenal, was seen back in training in footage shared by the club on Friday. While City officials remain cautious about setting a timeline for his comeback, Guardiola acknowledged that his return is now a real possibility.
"The fans must know they are not the only ones who are excited," Guardiola said. "It's been five months or six months, but one step at a time. We don’t have to make stupid decisions to bring him back too soon."
City have struggled in Rodri’s absence, currently sitting fourth in the league, 20 points behind leaders Liverpool after suffering eight defeats. His return could be a crucial boost as they push for a strong finish in the league and prepare for the FIFA Club World Cup in June.
Guardiola also provided an update on Nathan Ake, revealing that the Dutch defender will undergo further tests after being forced off at halftime in City's FA Cup win over Plymouth Argyle. Ake has battled recurring foot problems throughout the season, limiting him to just 18 appearances.
"It’s been like this the whole season with the central defenders," Guardiola said, adding that John Stones and Manuel Akanji also missed the FA Cup match due to injury.
As City continues to navigate injury concerns, the prospect of Rodri’s return remains a major talking point, with fans and Guardiola alike hoping for a late-season lift.
