The anti-encroachment centres (complaint facilitation cabins) set up by the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) in various markets on the directives of the Punjab chief minister have ironically become encroached upon themselves.
Each market has one complaint centre staffed by one or two field workers from the corporation. These centres were set up to allow citizens, traders, and passers-by to report encroachments and illegal parking.
However, motorcyclists have started using these facilitation centres as secure parking spots, leaving their bikes there for hours. Additionally, these centres often remain deserted, with no staff present, rendering them ineffective and merely symbolic. To avoid congestion and protect their bikes from theft, shopkeepers and customers now park their motorcycles inside these small cabins, taking advantage of free and seemingly safe parking.
The RMC has taken serious notice of this misuse, declaring that any anti-encroachment counter found with parked motorcycles will be fined, and the staff in charge will face action.
