Meghan Markle has sparked controversy after sharing a rare glimpse of her daughter, Lilibet, in a social media post promoting her upcoming Netflix series. The Duchess of Sussex uploaded photos and footage of the three-year-old spending time with tennis legend Serena Williams at home.

The images, shared on March 1 via Markle’s Instagram Stories, featured Lilibet dressed in a pink top and floral leggings as she played a Candy Land board game with Williams. Markle captioned the video, “When the aunties come to celebrate… and to play! Love you @serenawilliams,” with Bill Withers’ “Lovely Day” playing in the background.

While the footage initially captured a heartwarming family moment, the focus quickly shifted when Markle tied it to the promotion of her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, which premieres on March 4. She wrote, “Three days until the party begins. All are invited ❤️ @Netflix,” concluding the post with a black-and-white photo of her embracing Williams.

Critics argue that Markle’s decision to share private moments of Lilibet for marketing purposes contradicts her previous stance on keeping her children out of the public eye. Many observers claim this shift highlights an attempt to control her public image amid ongoing scrutiny.

This latest controversy follows a series of PR challenges for Markle, including criticism for rebranding her lifestyle company, As Ever, and comparisons to Princess Diana. Meghan McCain, during a February 19 episode of her Happy Hour digital series, criticized Markle’s approach, stating, “I cannot stand her. I love Princess Kate.”

Despite the backlash, Williams reposted the video, adding heart emojis, signaling her support. However, Markle has not publicly addressed the criticism, leaving many to speculate on how she will navigate the ongoing scrutiny.
