In his landmark 300th One Day International, India's star batter Virat Kohli was left in disbelief as New Zealand's Glenn Phillips pulled off a sensational catch at backward point to dismiss him during the last Group A game at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Kohli, who has played nearly 550 international matches and is no stranger to breathtaking moments, was visibly stunned by Phillips' acrobatic effort.
The Indian batter had unleashed a powerful cut shot off a back-of-a-length delivery, but to his surprise, not only was it stopped in its tracks, it also ended his time at the crease.
The catch left not only Kohli but also thousands of Indian fans, including his wife Anushka Sharma, in shock. The entire stadium fell silent as Phillips plucked the ball out of mid-air.
Replays revealed that the 28-year-old Kiwi, who dreams of becoming a pilot, had just 0.62 seconds to react. The ball had already passed him, yet he managed to grab it with remarkable precision, leaving fans and commentators in awe.
Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer praised Phillips on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "Whoever said Kiwis can't fly never saw Glenn Phillips field. #INDvNZ #ChampionsTrophy."
Earlier, in the opening match of the tournament, Phillips made the same spectacular effort that forced Pakistan captain Muhammad Rizwan to be dismissed cheaply.
Phillips, known for his incredible fielding skills, has consistently made impossible catches look easy. Earlier in the tournament, he took another stunner, further cementing his reputation as one of the greatest fielders in cricket history.
