Govt launches crackdown on ghost teachers

The Sindh education department is tightening noose around ghost teachers who have been consistently absent from their duties.

The chief monitoring officer for biometric attendance, acting on the orders of Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah, found 3,033 teachers of various schools in Umerkot district, Mirpurkhas division, and Benazirabad (Nawabshah) division, absent from their duties. These absentees include primary and secondary teachers. A total, 712 absentees have been reported from Umerkot district, the hometown of the minister.

Subsequently, the director education has started an investigation in Umerkot district. In the first phase, around 50 secondary and 150 primary teachers will be issued show-cause notices.

District Education Officer Inayat Kumbhar has sent notices and summoned the absent teachers to his office.

Deputy Director Education Jameel Qureshi reached Umerkot and issued notifications to block the salaries of absent teachers.

According to the list issued by the Biometric Department, 618 primary teachers from Umerkot district, 399 from Thar, 82 from Mirpurkhas, 986 from Sanghar, 187 from Shaheed Benazirabad, and 79 from Naushero Feroze have been found absent.

Similarly, in the secondary section, 94 teachers from Umerkot district, 167 from Thar, and 55 from Mirpurkhas have been absent. The chief monitoring officer has sent the lists of absent teachers to the directors education, Mirpurkhas and Benazirabad.
