QUETTA:

The provincial lawmakers have passed a resolution to demolish the historic structure of Balochistan Assembly and build a new building by keeping in view the security concerns.

In this regard, the motion was presented by Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti that was unanimously approval by the provincial lawmakers.

During the session, CM Bugti stressed for immediate action to address the deteriorating condition of the building.

Lawmakers expressed concerns over the lack of sufficient space in key chambers, such as those for the opposition and the speaker. They pointed out that the cramped and poorly maintained conditions were affecting the overall efficiency of the assembly's work.

Former Balochistan Chief Minister Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch raised an important question regarding the safety assessment of the building. He called for a detailed report as to who declared the structure unsafe, insisting that the information be shared with assembly members before making any decision.

Acknowledging his concerns, the speaker agreed to include Dr Baloch's suggestion in the final resolution.

The proposal gained widespread support from ministers, including Sardar Abdulrahman Khetran, Noor Mohammed Dumar and Younus Aziz.

After careful deliberation, the assembly passed the resolution, marking a pivotal step towards ensuring a safer and more functional working environment for lawmakers. The decision paves the way for potential plans to develop a new, more suitable structure to meet the needs of the assembly and the people it serves.
