Taylor Lautner has stepped up in defence of Selena Gomez after the actress faced body-shaming criticism on social media. The Twilight actor shared his thoughts on Instagram in support of Gomez, who has been mocked for her appearance at recent SAG Awards.

Lautner took to his Instagram Story on Wednesday to share a post by influencer Alex Light, which highlighted contradictory comments about Gomez's body at the 2024 and 2025 SAG Awards.

In her post, Light highlighted the absurdity of the body-shaming comments, stating that Gomez was mocked for gaining weight at the 2024 SAG Awards and then criticised for losing weight at the 2025 event.

She noted that this issue is about more than just Gomez, but rather reflects the unrealistic and impossible standards placed on all women. Light added, “No matter what we do, someone will have an opinion. So let’s remind ourselves: our bodies are ours, not up for public discussion.”

Lautner, who has previously spoken about his own struggles with body-related criticism following his Twilight fame, offered a powerful statement on the toxic nature of public judgment. He wrote, "It’s a cruel world full of hate out there," reminding everyone that pleasing everyone is impossible and unnecessary. He further urged, “Daily reminder to all of us to not forget how beautiful you are inside and out. …and be a little bit nicer.”

Gomez, who has faced challenges with her health due to lupus and a kidney transplant, has long been an advocate for self-acceptance and has been open about dealing with weight fluctuations as a result of her health issues. Throughout her career, she has repeatedly shut down body-shamers, encouraging people to embrace their true selves.
