An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday dismissed the pre-arrest bail pleas of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Asad Umar in cases related to the May 9 riots following the arrest of party supremo Imran Khan.
As proceedings commenced on Wednesday, Qureshi was neither produced before the court nor represented by any lawyer, prompting the judge to dismiss his bail petitions in two cases linked to the May 9 violence.
In Asad Umar's case, his counsel submitted an application seeking a one-day exemption from personal appearance, citing the petitioner's illness. However, the ATC judge expressed displeasure over the repeated absences, stating that such conduct was intolerable.
The judge remarked that Umar had also failed to appear in previous hearings and that no relief could be granted under such circumstances.
After reserving the verdict for a brief period, the judge later announced the dismissal of both bail pleas.
