Amid the rising accidents and fatalities caused by dumpers and trucks in Karachi, the traffic police has decided to install front and rear cameras in all dumpers and trucks, Express News reported.
The decision was made during a meeting with the Goods Carrier Association, aimed at enforcing traffic laws more effectively and identifying the causes of potential accidents.
During the meeting, the DIG Traffic issued directives for the installation of front and rear cameras in dumpers and trucks to monitor drivers, prevent accidents, and analyze the causes of any incidents that occur.
He explained that a large number of dumpers and trucks operate on the roads, and investigations into past accidents have faced difficulties due to a lack of evidence. The installation of these cameras will not only help monitor drivers but also aid in identifying the true causes of accidents.
He further instructed that the footage from the cameras should be stored for at least 15 days, and that the Karachi Traffic Police should have access to both live and recorded footage, along with tracking data, for surveillance purposes.
The delegation expressed their full support for this initiative and assured the Traffic Police of their cooperation in ensuring its success.
DIG Traffic maintained that strict enforcement of the law will follow, and urged dumper and truck owners to install cameras in their vehicles within the specified time frame to help reduce accidents and ensure the safety of citizens.
