James Hewitt, former lover of Princess Diana, has spoken out in a rare interview, sharing his thoughts on the ongoing tensions between Prince William and Prince Harry. Appearing on Good Morning Britain, Hewitt reflected on how Diana might have handled the high-profile rift between her sons.
"I think any mother would be worried and concerned about such a rift, and she’d do her best to try and get them together," Hewitt said when asked about Diana’s potential role in reconciling the brothers.
Hewitt, whose five-year affair with Princess Diana became public after her 1995 BBC Panorama interview, also addressed the controversy surrounding the program.

He described the interview as a “stitch-up job”, echoing accusations that journalist Martin Bashir misled Diana into participating.

In 2021, Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer, launched an independent investigation, revealing that Bashir had forged documents and misrepresented facts to secure the interview.
"It was absolutely appalling. He lied to her," Hewitt said of Bashir’s actions, adding that he detests bullying and arrogance. He revealed that he last spoke to Diana shortly after the interview but described their conversation as “distant.”
Now 66, Hewitt has largely stayed out of the spotlight but has shifted his efforts toward humanitarian aid. His Good Morning Britain appearance was tied to promoting Operation Safedrop, a charity providing aid to Ukraine.

Despite his past connection to Diana, Hewitt made it clear that he is ready to move on, saying her admissions on Panorama “did create problems,” but he prefers to focus on his current humanitarian work.
