Karla Sofía Gascón will attend the 2025 Academy Awards, with Netflix covering her expenses, sources confirm.

The Emilia Pérez star, nominated for Best Actress, will be at the March 2 ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Details on her red carpet appearance and seating arrangements alongside co-stars Zoe Saldaña, Selena Gomez, and director Jacques Audiard are still being finalized.

Ahead of the Oscars, Gascón is also expected to attend the César Awards in Paris on February 28.

Her awards campaign faced major setbacks after past tweets resurfaced, in which she made controversial remarks about Muslims, George Floyd, and diversity at the Oscars. The backlash led to her skipping the Critics Choice Awards, BAFTAs, and SAG Awards despite receiving nominations.

Following the controversy, Gascón apologized, stating: “As someone in a marginalized community, I know this suffering all too well and I am deeply sorry to those I have caused pain.” After an in-depth interview with CNN en Español on February 1, she announced she would no longer address the issue publicly.

Gascón is the first openly trans actor nominated for an Oscar and previously made history at Cannes, the Golden Globes, and other major film festivals.

Netflix and Gascón’s representatives have not commented on the matter. The New York Post first broke the story.
