Who Wants to Be a Millionaire shocks viewers as player uses all lifelines on £16,000 question

Olympic cyclist Laura Kenny used all three lifelines on a £16,000 question on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

Viewers of 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire' were left shocked as a contestant used all three of her lifelines on a question many thought was easy.

The ITV quiz show, hosted by Jeremy Clarkson, 64, featured Olympic cyclist Dame Laura Kenny and Channel 4 presenter Krishnan Guru-Murthy in the celebrity special on Sunday.

Dame Laura, who was playing to raise funds for the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust, performed well in the early rounds but hit a wall when she reached the £16,000 question.

The question asked: 'Which of these 1980s films have sequels called Afterlife and Frozen Empire?' with the options: A Top Gun, B The Terminator, C Ghostbusters, or D Blade Runner.

Laura ended up using all three lifelines, beginning with asking Jeremy, who couldn’t offer any assistance.

Next, she used the 50/50 lifeline, leaving her with two remaining options: C - Ghostbusters and D - Blade Runner. Still unsure, she phoned a friend, calling her father for help.

He responded: 'I really don't know, It's going to be a guess, and I'd go for Blade Runner.'

Ultimately, Laura chose to cash out, securing £8,000 for her charity instead of risking an incorrect answer.

She explained: 'I think that I probably wouldn't get the next question right anyways because I've got no lifelines left and I feel like that amount of money would mean a huge amount to the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust and that would be one heck of a risk I think to just have a desk and just roll so I think I'm going to take the money, thank you very much.'

Many viewers shared their opinions on social media, with some calling her decision 'madness'.
