WASHINGTON: The United States on Thursday said it has placed the Indian Mujahideen (IM), a militant group known for bombings in India, on its list of terrorist organizations.

“An India-based terrorist group with significant links to Pakistan, IM is responsible for dozens of bomb attacks throughout India since 2005, and has caused the deaths of hundreds of innocent civilians,” the State Department said.

It said the group maintained close ties to Pakistani-based groups on the terrorism list, and had as its goal attacks against non-Muslims with the ultimate aim of creating an Islamic caliphate across South Asia.

India has accused the group of carrying out an attack in town of Pune February 13, 2010 that claimed the lives of 16 people.

IM has also claimed responsibility for a series of bombings in New Delhi in September 2008, as well as 16 coordinated explosions in July 2008 in Ahmedabad and bombings the same year in Jaipur.

Placing the group on the terrorism list means that their assets can be frozen and Americans are barred from assisting the group.

Seems like every terrorist group in the World can be traced back to Pakistan somehow — you might consider doing something about that.

There are Indians in Pakistan placed on terrorist list. Indian
Mujahideen is linked with them. I have suggested it elsewhere
may be here I should repeat it, Pakistan should help the world
develop an encyclopedia of Islam, heretics and hadiths with
annexure of the entire standard law book of sharia. That can
help world in general identify peace loving Muslims.

Indian Official: Left-Wing Extremists Violent Movement in India

A senior Indian official says left-wing extremism is the “most violent movement” in the country.

Home Minister P. Chidambaram says the government plans to increase security personnel to combat the violence carried out by Naxalite, or Maoist, insurgent groups.

He spoke Tuesday in New Delhi to officials from more than 60 districts affected by violent attacks by Naxalites.

India’s Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has referred to Naxalism as the top security threat facing his country. The groups include some of India’s extreme poor, who say they are struggling against state-sanctioned acquisition of their land and natural resources.

Naxalites are widely considered terrorists. Thousands of civilian and police deaths in India have been blamed on Naxalite attacks since the rebel groups emerged in the late 1960s.Recommend

On hindsight it appears that an exchange of population purely on the basis of religion should have taken place at the time of partition. It would surely have been unethical, inhuman and against the principles of individual freedom (of choice) liberty, but probably would have saved India from these internal parasites.

@amir jafri: Dear Amir, Can’t understand what you want to say regarding this news subject.
US is talking about IM not naxalites. Naxalites is our internal issue, do not worry regarding this we will solve this problem in near future. And you pakistanis don’t know for what naxalites are fighting for as U people are thinking they want seperate indepndent state which is not true. we are not blaming any country for naxalite problem. Be clear before writing comments.

@ syed – let’s stop living in denial brother. For decades Pakistan has supported terrorism across the world and now we have become the butt of jokes worldwide. The terrorists are ruining our nation and every nation around us. We can either hang our heads in shame and melt into the earth or fight these terrorists back and show the world we are deserving of its trust and friendship once again.

Naxalism can be removed by economic development. But how do we remove terrorist organizations that are brainwashed with fake hadiths like Ghazwa-e-Hind and funded by those with political vengeance?

Many of the comments equate naxalites with IM. As mentioned by Khalid Ahmed naxalites issue is purely economic but IM kills in the name of religion. Naxalites are not brain washed to believe crap like 72 virgins. They never singled out and killed foreigners.

I think people are missing the crux of the main argument here. Instead of pointing fingers at Pakistan, why shouldn’t India just for one second just look at why this group exists in the first place? The Indian mujahideen is a home grown group made up of Indians and not Pakistanis. There should be a thorough study as to why there are radicalised disgruntled youth entering these organisations in the first place. Blaming Pakistan all the time is akin to living in denial mode for Indians.

India’s policies in Kashmir are among the root causes for all these organisations propping up. An Indian homegrown terror group appearing in the US terror list is nothing to cheer about. On the contrary, as an Indian, I would be very concerned how an Indian group managed to enter the US list of terror threats.

This is all an ISI conspiracy. How can “shining” and rising world superpower India suddenly become a hub of terror activitity and terrorist infrastructure!!?? All problems in India are because of ISI. Indian Mujahideen is also an ISI conspiracy. In fact, members of Indian Mujahideen are all Pakistani nationals. The Indian Army soldiers commiting massacres in Kashmir who are the root cause of all these terror groups are also all Pakistanis and an ISI conspiracy!!

This cannot happen in incredible India
