RAWALPINDI:

A joint team of jail authorities and police have recaptured a prisoner who mysteriously escaped from Adiala Central Jail, Rawalpindi. According to police sources, Luqman Masih was arrested from Islamabad's Bari Imam.

Masih, who was detained in connection with a drug case filed by Islamabad's Bhara Kahu police in January 2025, managed to escape from jail on Tuesday evening under unclear circumstances.

Following the escape, Punjab IG Prisons, Mian Farooq Nazir, ordered an inquiry led by DIG Prisons Rawalpindi Region Abdul Rauf Rana and Adiala Jail Superintendent Abdul Ghafoor Anjum. The initial investigation revealed negligence by jail staff, leading to the suspension of several officials for 90 days.

Those suspended included Assistant Superintendent Altaf Hussain (Admin Block), Assistant Superintendent Sajjad Haider Shah (Central Tower), Chief In-Charge of Barracks 6 to 8 Muhammad Riaz, In-Charge of Barrack 8 Imran Khan, and two wardens, Ammar Zahoor and Sher Zaman.

A special team, led by Superintendent Abdul Ghafoor Anjum, monitored Masih's movements, focusing on his ancestral home in Chakwal and his current residence in Bhara Kahu, Islamabad.

His family members were also questioned as part of the investigation. Authorities eventually tracked Masih to Bari Imam in Islamabad and conducted a raid in collaboration with the police, leading to his arrest. Legal proceedings against him for escaping from prison have now begun.
