Mirra Andreeva stunned World No. 2 Iga Swiatek on Thursday, securing a 6-3, 6-3 victory to reach her first WTA 1000 semifinal at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
The 17-year-old No. 12 seed recorded her second career win over a Top 2 player in under a year, having defeated then-No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka at Roland Garros.
In a rematch of their Cincinnati Open clash, Andreeva avenged her three-set loss to Swiatek, closing out the quarterfinal in 96 minutes.
Andreeva, playing her third match in two days due to rain delays, showed no signs of fatigue.
She broke Swiatek early and maintained control, brushing off a video review that overturned a key point in the first set.
Swiatek, who had notched dominant wins over Victoria Azarenka and Dayana Yastremska, led 3-1 in the second set before Andreeva won five consecutive games to seal the match.
Andreeva will face either No. 6 seed Elena Rybakina or Sofia Kenin in the semifinals.
