
The three-day celebrations of 773rd urs of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar ended on Wednesday with more than 2.5 million devotees visiting Sehwan in Jamshoro district, according to the official estimates. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also attended the concluding ceremony.
Talking to the media he tacitly complained that the federal government is not providing its share for the project of widening the Indus Highway between Sehwan and Jamshoro to prevent accidents. The Sindh government has already contributed Rs7 billion for the project which is around 50% of the total cost of the project, he said.
He informed that he has personally requested Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to release funds for the highway project.
The government organised art and handicrafts exhibitions, traditional wrestling, folk conference, literary conference and musical nights which drew large number of visitors. It was emphasised to conducting academic research on the life, philosophy and message of Qalandar. It was suggested that the saint's poetry should be included in the curriculum in order to connect the new generation with the mystical routes of Sindh. It was observed at the conference that the venerated souls like Qalandar use the medium of poetry to convey the message of truth and love to the people.
Deputy Commissioner of Dadu district, Mukhtiar Ali Abro, challenged the notion that the youth of Sindh visited urs celebrations to enjoy music and dance. "In fact, the youth attend these melas to familiarise themselves with the message of Qalandar and Bhitai."
