Armed men blocked the National Highway in the Rirkan area of Barkhan in Balochistan and shot dead seven people after taking them out of the passenger coaches they were travelling in, Express News reported late on Tuesday.

Quoting its sources, the report stated that because of the incident, the Quetta administration had stopped passenger vehicles at Rakhni, Biwata and Maikhtar, adding that Barkhan Assistant Commissioner confirmed the deaths in the shooting.

The incident follow, the killing of 11 labourers in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in the Shahrag area of Harnai district. Official said that the terrorist attack hit the vehicle as the coal miner workers were travelling to a market in district on Friday.

Friday's attack was not the first time coal miners have been targeted in the region. In the past, labourers working in coal mines have been kidnapped and killed in similar attacks, raising concerns over the security situation in the area.
