South Korean actor Kim Sae-ron, celebrated for her performances from a young age, has been found dead in Seoul, reported Variety.
According to local media reports, the 24-year-old was found in her home in the city's Seongsu-dong district by a friend on Sunday. Police officers have reported no signs of foul play. An investigation is underway. No further details have been provided.
Born in 2000 in Seoul, Kim embarked on her acting career as a child at the age of nine. As per the publication, she gained international recognition with her role in A Brand New Life (2009), which was showcased at the Cannes Film Festival. The achievement marked Kim as one of the youngest actors to be invited to the prestigious event.
The following year, the young actor's portrayal in one of South Korea's highest-grossing films, The Man From Nowhere (2010) further solidified her status as a rising star in Korean cinema. From there, Kim took on more complex roles, such as her performances in the thriller The Neighbour (2012) and A Girl at My Door (2014).
Kim's contributions to television included her role in the series The Queen's Classroom (2013), Hi! School-Love On (2014), and period fantasy series Mirror of the Witch (2016). She also made a mark in the action thriller The Villagers (2018).
The Korean star's career suffered a setback after she was involved in a drunk-driving accident in Seol in 2022, for which she was fined KRW20 million ($13,815). As a result, Kim withdrew from the public eye. She was slated to appear in the Netflix show Bloodhounds (2023), but her role was largely edited out following the DUI incident. Kim also stepped away from the series Trolley and the play Dongchimi. According to local media reports, Kim had been slated to mark her comeback to films with Guitar Man.
