Nikhil Nanda, the son-in-law of Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, is at the centre of a serious legal matter, as he faces accusations of fraud and abetment to suicide.
A case has been filed against Nikhil Nanda in the Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh, where he is accused of pressuring a businessman, Jitendra Singh, to meet unrealistic sales targets. The allegations against Nanda and several senior officials of Escorts Kubota Limited stem from an incident that led to Singh’s tragic suicide in November 2024.
The incident reportedly unfolded when Jitendra Singh, who owned Jai Kisan Traders, a tractor dealership in Dataganj, was subjected to intense pressure from Nanda and other senior executives at Escorts Kubota to increase sales figures.
The dealership owner, already struggling with the added burden of managing his business alone after his partner, Lalla Babu, was imprisoned over a family dispute, was allegedly threatened that his dealership licence would be revoked if he failed to meet the target. Overwhelmed by the pressure, Singh tragically took his own life.
Singh’s brother, Gyanendra, filed the complaint with the police, which led to the case being registered against Nikhil Nanda and other company officials, including the chairman and managing director of Escorts Kubota, area managers, sales managers, and a local dealer from Shahjahanpur. The complaint accused them of fraud, intimidation, and driving Singh to his tragic death.
Nikhil Nanda, who holds a prominent position as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Escorts Kubota, has not made any public statement regarding the allegations so far.
Additionally, the Bachchan family, which has a strong presence in both the business and entertainment sectors, has refrained from commenting on the issue. Nikhil is married to Shweta Bachchan, the daughter of the iconic Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan.
They share two children, Navya Naveli Nanda, a women's rights advocate and podcaster, and Agastya Nanda, who made his Bollywood debut with The Archies.
Nikhil Nanda, born into the Kapoor family, is the son of Ritu Nanda, the daughter of Raj Kapoor, one of Bollywood's most influential filmmakers. His uncles—Rishi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, and Rajiv Kapoor—were all major stars in the film industry.
As the leader of Escorts Kubota, Nikhil has been credited with significantly growing the company, which is a key player in India’s agricultural machinery market.
Before venturing into business, Nikhil completed his schooling at the prestigious Doon School in Dehradun, followed by business management studies at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He then took the helm at Escorts Kubota, a company originally founded by his grandfathers, Har Prasad Nanda and Yudi Nanda, both highly respected figures in the agricultural machinery sector.
In addition to his corporate success, Nikhil Nanda's association with Bollywood has kept him in the public eye. His family connections are well known, with cousins including Karisma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Ranbir Kapoor. However, these ties have not shielded him from the serious legal issues currently surrounding him.
