Two killed in small plane crash near Covington Airport in Georgia

At least two people have died after a small aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from Covington Municipal Airport in Georgia late Saturday night.

According to local police, the Rockwell Commander aircraft took off at approximately 11:00 p.m. ET but lost contact shortly after. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) alerted Covington authorities at 11:21 p.m., prompting officers to locate the wreckage in a wooded area north of the runway. Both individuals on board were pronounced dead at the scene.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash. Authorities have not yet released details about the victims.

This latest incident follows a series of fatal aviation accidents across the US in recent weeks. On January 29, an American Airlines jet collided with a military helicopter near Washington, DC, killing 67 people. Days later, a medical transport jet crashed into a Philadelphia neighborhood, claiming seven lives, and a small commuter plane in Alaska went down, killing all 10 passengers.

Investigators continue to probe these incidents amid growing concerns over aviation safety.
