Post Malone delivered a historic performance at SNL50: The Homecoming Concert, fronting a surprise Nirvana reunion alongside surviving members Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, and Pat Smear.
The electrifying moment saw the group perform the grunge anthem "Smells Like Teen Spirit" at Radio City Music Hall on February 14.
SNL alum Adam Sandler introduced the unexpected collaboration, playfully announcing, "Ladies and gentlemen, Post Nirvana!" Malone, a longtime Nirvana fan known for his rock-influenced style, embraced the moment with raw energy, earning a hug from Grohl at the song’s conclusion.
The performance marked Nirvana’s first major televised appearance with a male vocalist since Kurt Cobain’s passing in 1994. The band previously reunited at FireAid in Los Angeles, featuring Joan Jett, St. Vincent, Kim Gordon, and Violet Grohl.
Post Malone has a history with Nirvana’s music, having performed a critically acclaimed tribute set in 2020. He recently announced a vinyl release of that session for Record Store Day on April 12.
The SNL50 concert also featured sets by Jack White, Miley Cyrus, Eddie Vedder, Robyn, David Byrne, and Lady Gaga, making it a night to remember in SNL’s five-decade legacy.
