Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, a member of the National Assembly and prominent leader of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), has become the only lawmaker among 314 members to refuse her monthly salary.

The daughter of former President Asif Ali Zardari and sister of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari was elected unopposed from NA-207.

Since taking office as a Member of National Assembly (MNA) last year, Aseefa has declined to accept any government pay.

In June 2024, just two months after her swearing-in, Aseefa announced that she would not be taking any salary or allowances.

Last month, First Lady of Pakistan and Chairperson of Sindh Peoples Welfare Trust (SPWT) Aseefa Bhutto Zardari inaugurated the groundbreaking ceremony for the People's School, a transformative educational initiative aimed at fostering quality education and youth empowerment.

The SPWT, founded by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto in February 1987, continues with her legacy of uplifting communities through education and healthcare.

Aseefa Bhutto Zardari was accompanied by Chancellor of SZABIST and Sindh Minister for Health Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho along with the SPWT Board of Trustees, including Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Abdul Aziz Edhi, Khursheed Junejo, Lubna Khalid, and Suleman Shaikh.

The People's School will be constructed in Karachi and is designed to provide a state-of-the-art educational environment. Under the first phase, the project will include primary and secondary school facilities, an administrative block, ensuring a modern and holistic learning experience for students.
