Elon Musk has revealed plans for an ambitious underground transport system aimed at easing congestion in Dubai.

The project, named ‘Dubai Loop,’ was announced during the World Government Summit 2025, where Musk spoke virtually with Omar Al Olama, the UAE’s Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications.

The Dubai Loop project will connect the emirate’s most densely populated areas through a network of tunnels.

Musk described the system as “like a wormhole,” offering a fast, safe, and efficient way for people to travel from one part of the city to another. He added that once implemented, the system would quickly become an obvious transport choice for busy areas.

“We look forward to the partnership, and we’re going to join the first trip, the first pod,” said Al Olama, thanking Musk for his collaboration.

Although specific details of the project were not disclosed, Musk’s company, The Boring Company, is known for building safe, fast, and low-cost tunnels in cities around the world to solve traffic problems and transform urban mobility.

Musk also discussed the advantages of underground travel over air transport, explaining that flying taxis and helicopters often face noise, wind force, and weather-related disruptions.

In contrast, tunnels remain unaffected by weather and provide a safer mode of travel, especially in extreme conditions like earthquakes.

This groundbreaking partnership comes on the heels of other projects Musk’s company has undertaken, including a tunnel system in Las Vegas that connects major hotels, the convention center, and the airport.
