Duolingo has left fans puzzled after announcing the "death" of its iconic owl mascot, Duo.

The popular language-learning platform, known for its humorous social media presence, shared a lighthearted post declaring Duo's demise, claiming that authorities were investigating the cause of death. The post, which invited fans to “respect privacy,” humorously suggested that Duo likely passed away from waiting too long for users to complete their lessons.

In the quirky announcement, Duolingo also joked about the mascot's many “enemies” and even asked users to refrain from sharing negative comments about Duo, while playfully encouraging them to sign up for Duolingo Max in his memory. The company further added that they appreciated “Dua Lipa’s privacy” during this time.

Headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Duolingo was founded in 2011 by Luis von Ahn and Severin Hacker.

Since launching its app in 2012, Duolingo has grown to become one of the world’s most popular educational platforms, offering a range of language learning tools for children and adults alike, including Duolingo ABC and the Duolingo English proficiency test. The app has become a top choice for language learners globally.
