Kane Williamson breaks Virat Kohli’s record with latest milestone

New Zealand batter Kane Williamson has overtaken Virat Kohli to become the second-fastest men's cricketer to score 7,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs).

He achieved the milestone in his 159th ODI innings during the tri-nation series match against South Africa, where he remained unbeaten on 133 runs.

The record for the fastest to 7,000 ODI runs remains with South Africa's Hashim Amla, who reached the milestone in just 150 innings.

Kohli had previously held the second spot, having achieved the feat in 161 innings.

Williamson's century helped New Zealand secure a six-wicket win over South Africa and book a place in the final of the tri-nation series.

This was Williamson's first ODI century since 2019 and his second-fastest in the format.

New Zealand will now prepare for the final of the tri-nation series, with Williamson's form proving crucial for their campaign.
