As the Philadelphia Eagles celebrated their Super Bowl 59 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, an unexpected figure re-entered the spotlight—Princess Diana. Photos of the late Princess of Wales wearing an Eagles varsity jacket in the early ’90s went viral, reigniting speculation about whether she was secretly a fan of the team.

Diana’s now-iconic green-and-silver jacket came from Jack Edelstein, a longtime Eagles statistician, whom she met in 1982. After she complimented the team’s color scheme, Edelstein sent her official Eagles gear, including the jacket that would later become a royal fashion statement.

While there’s no record of her watching games, Diana’s former bodyguard Ken Wharfe suggested she wore the jacket more for style and comfort than team loyalty.

However, Eagles fans have embraced her as an honorary supporter, with longtime announcer Merrill Reese saying, “If Diana was an Eagles fan, she would be one of us.”

Eagles fan flooded social media with posts honouring the late princess, humorously adding that she would have loved last night's win along with Kendrick's halftime show.

Decades later, Diana’s Eagles jacket remains a cultural phenomenon, with fans searching for its whereabouts.

As the Eagles claimed victory, her fashion moment once again took center stage, proving that her influence transcends both sports and royalty.
