Top military officials of BD, Maldives call on COAS

Prevailing regional security environment came under discussion

Top military officials from Bangladesh and the Maldives called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir on Friday and discussed the prevailing regional security environment, and the avenues for enhanced defence and security cooperation, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

Those called on Gen Asim included Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) of Bangladesh Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan, and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) of the Maldives Armed Forces Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, the ISPR, the media wing of the military, stated in separate press releases.

During the meeting between Gen Asim and Maj-Gen Hilmy, Both sides expressed satisfaction over the enduring bonds of brotherhood and friendship between Pakistan and the Maldives, underscoring their shared perspectives on key regional issues.

Recognising the evolving security landscape, the two military leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening and revitalising bilateral ties, with a view to enhancing collaboration in areas of mutual interest. Maj-Gen Hilmy lauded the Pakistan Army's contributions to regional stability.

In a separate meeting, the ISPR said, Admiral Hassan also commended Pakistan's pivotal role in fostering peace and stability in the region. He appreciated the holding of the upcoming Multinational Maritime Exercise AMAN 2025 and the conduct of AMAN Dialogue.

The ISPR said that during this second high-level visit by Bangladesh Armed Forces in the recent past, both dignitaries engaged in discussions on matters of mutual interest, the prevailing regional security environment, and avenues for enhanced bilateral defence and security cooperation.

Admiral Hassan also called on Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC). The ISPR said that their discussion centred on evolving regional environments, and mutual strategic interests, including maritime collaboration.

Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza also met with Hungary's Deputy Defence Minister Tamas Vargha. During the meeting, both the leaders emphasised the importance of exploring new opportunities for mutually beneficial collaboration in defence and security domains between both countries, the ISPR stated.
